Frequently asked questions
Can you accommodate my dietary needs?
We require a 24-hour notice to accommodate any dietary requests. At Luthun, we try to make the fewest changes possible when accommodating dietary needs so that our guests may enjoy the menu as Chef Nahid originally envisioned. As our menu changes, so does our ability to accommodate certain requests. We currently do not offer vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free, seafood-free, spice-sensitive, or Halal/Kosher menus. Please reach out to info@luthun.com to inquire about any other allergies or dietary needs.
How long does the dining experience last?
We recommend budgeting 2.5 hours of your time to complete the full tasting menu. We aim to finish service within 1.75-2 hours, but depending on how busy the restaurant is, it may take longer
Where are you located?
We are located on 13th st in East Village between Ave A and 1st Ave. The nearest subway station is 1st Ave with service from the L train
What kind of cuisine can I expect to be served?
We exclusively offer a 9-course tasting menu with additional wine and beverage pairing options. Our menu is frequently updated, with minute changes occurring day-to-day and complete menu overhauls occurring 1-2 times a month. Chef’s cuisine is not contained to any particular style, and we are dedicated to an ethos of internationality, nuanced approaches to traditional dishes, culinary diversity & fusion, and bold, intense flavors. You can expect influences from Southeast Asia, North Africa, France, Spain, The UK, Central America, The Carribbean, Mediterranean, and everywhere else in-between
How large are your portions?
Our current menu consists of two “snack” courses, 5 mains, and 2 desserts. Portions are relatively small, but they add up to be a very substantial meal for an average person (come hungry!)
What kinds of beverage options will be available?
While the Luthun experience is mostly about the food, we also offer a world-class beverage list curated by our resident sommelier, Jahdea Gildin, with several awards and recognition from the Star Wine List. Our diverse list reflects Chef’s international cuisine, and you can find a wide variety of wine, beer, cider, sake, sool, housemade non-alcoholic concoctions, and other rare and unusual beverages served by the glass or the bottle. We particularly recommend supplementing your meal with one of our 3 full-menu pairing options. You can find our most up-to-date list under the “beverage offerings” tab, and feel free to reach out to the sommelier via jahdea.gildin@luthun.com for any specific inquiries or suggestions
Can I reserve a specific spot?
Seats at the Chef’s counter are available for the 6:00 and 8:30 seatings only. Dining Room seating is available at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, and 9:00. Beyond that, all seating assignments are made at the discretion of the staff
I’m running a bit late. Can you hold my spot?
NYC traffic is unpredictable and frustrating; we understand and will do everything we can to make sure you get the experience you are paying for. That being said, we currently have a 10-minute grace period for late arrivals. Timing is crucial to ensure efficient turnover times, and exceeding 10 minutes increases your risk of forfeiting the first one or two courses. Please call ahead if you are running behind, and we will accommodate to the best of our ability.
How long can I stick around after dinner is over?
This is entirely dependent on what time you’ve made your reservation for and how busy the restaurant is. if you have an earlier reservation (before 7:30) chances are we will need your table back for the next party. If you have a later reservation and we do not need to fill your table, you are MORE than welcome to stick around, keep the drinks flowing, and chat with us for as long as you’d like. If it is a priority for you to have plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the experience at your pace, we strongly recommend you make a reservation for 7:30, 8:30, or 9:00
How far in advance can I book?
Online reservations on Resy are available up to one month in advance. For special events or specific booking inquiries beyond that timeframe, contact info@luthun.com
Can I bring my own wine?
Of course! you are welcome to bring your own beverages with a $75 corkage fee and a 2-bottle maximum
Are you open to suggestions and feedback?
We are VERY open to your input - both positive and negative. Since we update our menu frequently, we rely heavily on the taste of our guests to determine what we will do next. When we ask you how you enjoyed your meal at the end of the night and you have any comments or complaints, don’t feel afraid to tell us how you really feel. We are listening to you and are constantly discussing what we can do behind the scenes to make the Luthun experience the best it can be for everyone
Can I schedule an event at your space?
Yes! We offer full and partial buyout options for private events. Our chef’s counter holds 10 people and the dining room 16, so the maximum number of people we can accommodate at once is 26. For quotes and inquiries, reach out to either info@luthun.com or directly to our Maitre D’ at ian.ausdal@luthun.com
